At Fades & Arches Barbershop, we offer hands-on on-the-job training (OJT) to help individuals become eligible to take the South Carolina barber licensing exam. Train in a real barbershop, work with experienced barbers, and develop the skills you need for a successful career.

THE OJT PATHWAY

Follow these steps to work toward becoming a licensed barber in South Carolina.

Apply & Obtain Your Student/ojt Permit

Apply to the Fades & Arches OJT program and complete the required enrollment process. A South Carolina student/OJT permit must be issued before eligible training hours can begin.

Complete Your Ojt Training

Complete 1,920 hours of approved on-the-job barber training under a licensed barber instructor while gaining hands-on experience in a licensed barbershop.

Pass The Required Examinations

Meet the Board’s examination eligibility requirements and pass the required NIC theory and practical examinations. Eligible OJT students may request early testing after completing 1,728 hours (90% of the required hours), but all 1,920 hours must still be completed.

Complete The Barber Apprentice Period

After completing the required training, passing the examinations, and otherwise qualifying. obtain your South Carolina barber apprentice license and complete the required one-year supervised apprentice period.

Unrestricted Barber License

After successfully completing the required apprentice period and satisfying applicable South Carolina Board requirements, you may progress to unrestricted barber licensure.

Program Requirements

Must meet South Carolina Board requirements
Obtain a student/OJT permit before training hours begin
